It is actually so funny! My toes got a little stepped on this week when it hit a little too close to home. It made fun of the Scrabble-playing-fondue-partying-in-a-committed-relationship-all-grown-up-in-their-20's boring people. Basically me. They forgot to glamourize my life, but I guess that wouldn't be very funny (just glamorous). The jokes are hilarious, though. Barney danced all night with a girl he found out was his cousin; Marshall and Lily sneaking out of their own wine and cheese party. In the first episode the dad said, "and that's how I met your Aunt Robin. I keep trying to figure it out every week... I think my husband ruined it for me by figuring it out. He thinks that Ted will bring home the girl of his dreams, who turns out to be Robin's sister.

I miss the good old days

Don't you miss the good old days of television when the titles of the shows were short? Fame. Chips. When titles like "The Facts of Life" were an anomaly. These days, by the time I finish naming the show, I forgot what I was going to say about it. How I Met Your Mother, My Name is Earl, America's Next Top Model, Everybody Hates Chris... what was I saying?.... I guess that the Chief had an affair with the elder Dr Grey back in their day. They finally gave Alex (the jerky doctor) a story line that he needs to pass his exam. It was pretty obvious this week that the patient was poisoning herself to get attention. You guessed it- it happened during one of my shows. There I am, enjoying the show when I realized that all of the commercials that I had seen were for fiber supplements, denture cream, or adult diapers. No, I wasn't watching infomercials at 3 am, I was watching a mystery movie called McBride on the Hallmark Channel. (It has happened during Matlock and Murder She Wrote reruns too). Can't someone younger than age 65 enjoy a good mystery? I, for one, love them, so advertisers beware: you're missing your mark!!! Yikes. Have you seen this show? It is incredibly painful- and I went into it with an open mind. I am a typical chick-flick-loving woman, so I thought maybe Freddie Prinze Jr might have a decent show. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I feel very bad for him because he is dedicating the show to the memory of his father, but the writing is some of the most awful that I've seen (right up there with Out of Practice and last season's Joey). I don't think that there was an original line/thought in the whole episode. If I was dedicating something to the memory of my parents, I would have made sure that it was the most amazing thing ever written/acted. I wish Freddie the best, I just don't think that this is it! Poor Freddie...

Are you watching these shows?

There are some seriously good shows that I don't think anybody is watching. First and foremost is Veronica Mars (do I talk enough about that show?, because I really love it). We also never miss a minute of Threshold on Friday nights. It is kindof a sci-fi drama thriller. A group of people implement a plan called Threshold to prevent an alien virus from infecting (and destroying) human-kind. (My summary makes it sound a lot nerdier than it actually is) I would definitely rank this as thrilling and nail-biting as Prison Break or a show like that. It's a good one. I also watched E-Ring for the first time this week and was pleasantly surprised. It was not too much of a nasty reality slap in the face (you can find enough of that on the news), but it was a good guy soldier trying to save the world (or this week Burundi) by beating the slick politicians at their own game. I think that it was A Few Good Men without the courtroom drama (You can't handle the truth!).

Comedy Rewind 10/16/05

There were some really funny shows on tv this week. My Name is Earl faking his death to break up with his girlfriend, The Office playing "who would you do" and "desert island", WAG on Will & Grace, and getting Robin to say weird things on the news for money on How I Met Your Mother. Do you think that she is going to end up marrying Barney? On the first episode it said, "that was how I met your Aunt Robin". I don't think that she will take the other girl's fiance, so I think it will have to be Barney. Also, Saturday Night Live was so funny last week in the monologue with Jon Heder when they had the Napoleon Dynamite impersonators asking if the movie was based on them (Gosh!).

Favorite Rewind 10/16/05

The baby and I were under the weather this week, so I didn't watch a lot of tv until last night. On Grey's everyone was having a bad day- Dr McDreamy is being forced to choose which woman he wants, Christina had a tubal pregnancy!, and Izzy is crushing on the rude doctor (what's his name again?). I never thought that I would watch a soap opera, but what else can you call it? Either way- loving it!!! The real estate fraud on Veronica Mars was a great idea. It will further the feud now that some of the rich people might become poor. I feel bad for Cassidy messing up his family's life by accident and never getting enough love from his father. My tastes have definitely changed. I try not to miss Dog the Bounty Hunter on A&E, What Not To Wear on TLC, and America's Next Top Model on UPN. (sorry NBC, that means that I am not watching either of the Apprentices) The DVR helps because I am not sucked into watching something just because that is the only thing on tv. I also can put up with the drama when it comes with a feel-good ending (although on ANTM it's mostly just Springer drama with some cool photo shoots). I really like how Dog tries to rehabilitate his criminals. It is a good sign that the shows that I like best this fall are actually scripted shows (like Veronica Mars). For a few years all Hollywood writers were getting creamed by Simon Cowell's shocking sarcasm and the Bachelor's hot tubs.

Baseball, Shmaseball

I'm sure that there are millions of Americans who are interested in post-season baseball. It had all the melodrama that you could ever ask for, including hugging scenes in slow motion. It was like a mix between Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and a watered-down Law & Order, except cheesier. It is definitely tolerable, albeit predictable and slow-paced. I may watch it again to see if it gets any better as long as it doesn't have a scheduling conflict with a show I actually like to watch.

Prison Break 10/3/05

Watching Prison Break every week has caused me to adapt a new life motto: never, ever end up in prison. Thank God Michael Schofield is there (minus two toes) master-minding everything or else I would be seriously concerned for his brother's life. I normally can't handle these prison dramas, but I like the overlying conspiracy mystery and how I am so tense that I watch from the edge of my seat. Don't you just love the snappy conversation on Grey's Anatomy? I think that's partly why I like the show- all the verbal wrangling. Dr Shephard doing his cute little smirks and having a ready reply for everyone. Hmmm.... Do we understand his wife's point of view or do we root for the show's heroine? Dr Burke was finally a little nicer this week. He's lucky that Christina and her Estrogen didn't give him a beating! I, for one, had a hard time focusing on the actual show this week because we kept debating whether syphilis is curable! (should have paid closer attention in health class- luckily I had a search engine to catch me up to speed this morning!)

Weekly Rewind 10/01/05

Wow! Another great week of television viewing. A few surprises, huh? Veronica Mars season premiere had me gasping. It seemed like a lot of information to include into one hour, but I was surprised to see that she ended up with Duncan. I guess I knew that she had to get rid of Logan. Was that the school bus that went over the cliff with Meg in it? Grey's Anatomy was (of course) wonderful. I was glad that Derek (Dr. Shephard) was not a total cad (he's still a little too married in my book...). I didn't like Dr. Burke being a jerk- hope that changes. I was so completely surprised that on both Grey's Anatomy and House they featured the same "stand-still" surgery where they have to kill the patient for a short while in order to perform the surgery and then bring them back. Was that the new shocking surgery that all of the writers found out in the off-season? It was a little anti-climactic after we saw it first on House (although on House they only had 60 seconds to perform the surgery and on Grey's they had 45 minutes?!). House was great as usual, although a little gory this week! I definitely had to turn away while they were cutting off the patient's rotting hand and drilling into his skull. Gross! Threshold is still one of our favorite new shows- it really rocks. The third episode aired last night, and it was not quite as freaky as the first two, but it still delivered. That show blows my mind. I can never figure out what's going to happen next. I always love NCIS. We weren't sure who was going to kill Ari at the end- glad that it was the girl. Do you think that she's going to be working with them more often? They need someone to flirt with Tony. Prison Break is good every week, but it stresses me out to see him sneaking out of his cell. I guess I'm too high strung like his cellmate, Sucre. The Office, My Name is Earl, and How I Met Your Mother always make me laugh. Those car seats strapped into the back of the El Camino on Earl were so hilarious. Want to talk about one of the most painful shows on television- Out of Practice. I think that it definitely tried too hard and did not deliver (I will not be wasting 30 minutes on that again)! I'm counting down to all of the great shows this coming week- only 30 more hours until the next episode of Grey's!!!

I think that I'm in love

You know the feeling of excitement that races through you when your date knocks on the front door- your pulse quickens, you get a little lightheaded? That is absolutely how giddy I am about the new shows this fall season! All of the season premieres have aired, and I was loving every minute of it. My DVR is my best friend, because when the baby takes a nap I get an entertainment break (and seriously, how much daytime tv could one person watch before their head explodes?). The shows that I can't wait to watch each week: Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars, NCIS, House, Threshold, Scrubs. Shows that I am really liking: Prison Break, The Office, My Name is Earl, How I Met Your Mother. The reality show that always keeps me sucked in (embarassed as I am to admit it): America's Next Top Model. The other shows that you can find on my DVR list every week: Criminal Minds, Bones, Joey (the season premiere was actually tolerable), Will & Grace- and of course Sesame Street. Whatever you do, please do not actually calculate how much tv this means that I'm watching. My husband may find out that I could possibly be able to squeeze in a minute or two more of housework each day!
